Sweet & Sour Red Cabbage (German)


3/4 cup brown sugar

4 tablespoons flour

2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

3/4 cup water

1 cup red wine vinegar

2 medium heads red cabbage thinly sliced

1 large red onion thinly sliced

1/2 cup crumbled cooked bacon


Combine sugar, flour, salt and pepper in a large measuring cup. Stir in water and vinegar to dissolve sugar & blend in flour. Layer shredded cabbage and onion in crockpot, & pour liquid mixture over cabbage.
Cover and cook on high 4 hours. Sprinkle cooked bacon over the top. Taste for seasonings, & add more salt, pepper or vinegar as necessary.
