This is a long-time favorite comfort food for our family. Sarah actually requested it today, and since her days living with us in North Carolina are numbered now, I’m trying to cook all her special requests. This is a recipe I grew up eating in my mom’s kitchen. For some reason, frozen broccoli tastes better …

Log: Cabbage Tomato Soup
This evening we dined on some homemade cabbage tomato soup, which was a riff off the “Cabbage Roll Soup” recipe from Dinner at the Zoo. It’s quite similar to the full recipe I wrote up in May 2022 before leaving Oklahoma City, for “Beef Cabbage Soup,” except this version leaves out the green peppers and …
Beef Cabbage Soup
This recipe was an invention for a rainy and cool day today, and it turned out delicious. I had some beef stew meat from ButcherBox in our freezer that we needed to eat, and this turned out to be a great way to do that! Be careful not to add the cabbage too soon, because …
Overnight Beef Short Ribs
My overnight cook of beef short ribs on my RecTeq RT-700 Bull smoker. 7.5 hours at 250 degrees, no wrap. Prep was yellow mustard binder and SPG: 3 tbsp salt, 3 tbsp pepper, 2 tbsp granulated garlic. Inspired by these 3 videos: Meat Church: Beef Ribs – Hardcore BBQ Series Part 5 of 9 Harry …

Roasted Shishito Peppers
Many thanks to my mom, Angie Fryer, for sharing this recipe with me! We had this a few months ago when we were in Manhattan for a visit. These are SO GOOD!
This is a modification of the “Roasted Shishito Peppers” recipe by Sonja Overhiser. The difference is instead of kosher salt, this recipe uses Traeger rub. (We’re reducing salt intake in our diet.)
