Oven Apple Crisp

On a cold winter evening, there’s nothing quite like the warm, spiced aroma of baking apples and cinnamon wafting through your home. An apple crisp is just the thing to not only make the house smell amazing but also give any meal a perfect ending as dessert. This scaled-down version is ideal for a small household and comes together quickly with pantry staples.

Equipment

  • 1 square or round pyrex dish

Ingredients
  

  • 3 medium apples sliced, peel if desired
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup 4 tablespoons cold butter
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and butter an 8×8 baking dish.
  • In the prepared dish, toss the sliced apples with 1 tablespoon flour, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  • For the topping, mix together 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, and a generous sprinkle of cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter using a fork or your fingers until the mixture is crumbly. Stir in the chopped walnuts.
  • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the apples are tender and bubbling. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream!
